Would Solo Leveling’s Jinwoo Sung Survive in These Shonen Anime Universes?

Solo Leveling is an exciting action shonen anime with a distinct “monster hunter” vibe to it. In this anime world, portals to fantasy-style dungeons started appearing all over the place, allowing monsters to march right into the city streets to wreak havoc, so an entire industry of monster hunters sprang up to deal with this unexpected new threat. That includes the strong-willed underdog hero Jinwoo Sung, who was once the weakest, humblest hunter of them all. As an E-rank hunter, he struggled to even fight basic goblins by himself.

After cheating death in a double dungeon, Jinwoo Sung gained the ability to gain new levels and power up while fighting, which was his ticket to reaching new heights of power as a hunter. By the end of Solo Leveling‘s first anime season, Jinwoo Sung has become a stronger, smarter, and deadlier monster slayer who can deliver serious results with knives and similar bladed weapons. He’s now capable of soloing mid-level boss monsters in those dungeons, but if Jinwoo really wants to level up, he should visit other anime worlds and test his mettle against all-new threats.

Avatar Aang is the greatest Bender in his world, but how would he survive in other anime universes?

Kaiju No. 8 is a World Where Godzilla Attacks Every Other Day

Jinwoo Sung Must Get Used to Titanic Boss Battles That Don’t Fit in Dungeons

There are plenty of other monster hunter anime worlds for heroes like Jinwoo Sung to explore, with Kaiju No. 8 being one of the most recent and vivid examples. True to its name, Kaiju No. 8 is all bout titanic kaiju who regularly attack Tokyo, and it’s up to the elite soldiers of the JAKDF to fight back and save civilization from these beasts. In particular, the soldiers of the JAKDF wear black armor suits to power up and enhance their mobility, which is essential when they fight deadly monsters for a living. On offense, these anti-kaiju soldiers wield weapons like blades and more often, assault rifles with special ammo to destory kaiju of all sizes. Carbines and submachine guns are common, while the mighty Mina Ashiro dispatches kaiju with her impressive sniper rifle. These JAKDF soldiers also have the benefit of helicopters, armored transport vehicles, and other hardware to reach any battlefield in time.

Jinwoo Sung stands a decent chance of surviving Kaiju No. 8‘s world, but only if a few conditions are met. To begin with, he must have a decent syncro rate with the armor suits, and he must trade his weapons for specialized anti-kaiju weaponry to take on these monsters. Given his current skills, Jinwoo would prefer bladed weaponry to match Hoshina’s own fighting style, and no doubt Hoshina would give him a little extra training in that regard. Jinwoo would struggle against the largest kaiju, but mid-level and smaller kaiju would be easy for him to handle. Should Jinwoo carefully pick his battles, he would do fine in this universe.

My Hero Academia: A Bizarre Future Where Everyone Feels Like the X-Men

Jinwoo Couldn’t Handle the Sheer Variety of Quirks in Deku’s Era

Rather than being a “monster hunter” anime like Solo Leveling or Kaiju No. 8, the world of My Hero Academia is all about the advent of superpowered Quirks in society. In Deku’s era, almost everyone has a mutant-style power, with Quirks coming in four main categories while having impressive diversity in each of those categories. With so many superpowers around, an entire industry of pro heroes took shape to regulate society and keep everyone safe, while villains and criminals abuse their own Quirks to prosper in society’s underbelly. Success in this anime world calls for shonen-style grit and hard work, not to mention being born with a good Quirk and training to use it cleverly alone or comboed with other Quirks. This world rewards resourceful and creative thinking, since Quirks may clash or be combined in a near-infinite variety of ways.

Would Katsuki Bakugo Survive in These Anime Universes?

Katsuki Bakugo needs all his explosion power and wits if he’s going to face off against demons, Stands, and wizards.

Jinwoo Sung would not make it very far in My Hero Academia‘s world if he wanted to be a pro hero or vigilante. His enhanced physical abilities and combat skills are impressive, but he specializes in fighting monsters, not people, and he can’t handle the sheer variety of Quirks found in this anime. Jinwoo would have no answer for villainous Quirks like Compress, Overhaul, or Decay, and Jinwoo couldn’t contribute much to a team of pro heroes, either, since he has no Quirk to combo with their own. At most, Jinwoo could serve as an ordinary police officer, a valid yet humble way to defend society in an era of Quirks.

Demon Slayer: Fighting Muzan’s Monstrous Hordes in the Dead of Night

Jinwoo Could Learn to Wield a Nichirin Blade With Great Skill

Demon Slayer is aptly named, being a conventional yet delightful shonen anime where the protagonists hunt demons to make a living and protect humanity from the horrors of the night. The Demon Slayer Corps has spent centuries battling Muzan Kibutsuji the demon king and his monstrous hordes, and that battle contineus into the Taisho era, swords vs fangs. By the year 1915, Tanjiro Kamado was ready to join the Corps, receiving his own Nichirin sword to fight off and behead demons of all kinds. Humans are always the underdogs in this monster hunter paradigm, so Tanjiro and his friends train hard to use swords with great skill, augmented by both breathing techniques and demon slayer marks. Ordinary demons are a cinch for Tanjiro to slay, but the Lower and Upper Moons are a different story, and Muzan himself seems untouchable.

Would Kyojuro Rengoku Survive in These Anime Universes?

Kyojuro Rengoku can handle any demon that crosses his path, but would he be able to survive some of the most dangerous anime universes?

So long as Jinwoo Sung avoids the Upper Moons in solo battles, such as Daki and Gyokko, he will be in good shape in Demon Slayer‘s universe and will survive just fine here. It helps that slaying demons doesn’t call for any special magic powers, just swords and the skill to wield them properly. Jinwoo has already been fighting like that in Solo Leveling‘s dungeons, so it would be no trouble for him to train with Nichirin swords and get a blade of his own to slay these demons. He could probably take on and defeat the Lower Moons without the benefit of Hinokami Kagura. After a point, Jinwoo could even help the nine elite Hashira take on the Upper Moons if he’s careful and maintains tight teamwork.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Hunting Curses With Cursed Energy and Domain Expansions

Jinwoo Should Fight Curses the Way Maki Zenin Does

Jujutsu Kaisen is one of the darkest yet most compelling shonen action anime to be released in the last few years. This anime takes place in present-day Japan, a world haunted by curses that form from humanity’s festering negative emotions until those emotions become physical monsters. Curses are ranked in power, from weak Grade 4 curses to the terrifying and deadly Special Grade curses, and only sorcerers of the proper ranking can take them on. Sorcerers fight fire with fire, tapping into their own negative emotions to fuel their curse-based techniques and destroy these monsters. Notable examples include Nobara Kugisaki’s straw doll technique, Maki Zenin’s use of curse-charged weapons, and Kento Nanami’s 7:3 ratio move. The strongest sorcerers can also use Domain Expansion to reshape the battlefield to suit them, and a few of the strongest curses can do the same.

Would Sasuke Uchiha Survive in These Anime Universes?

Sasuke is one of Naruto’s most beloved characters. But how would he cope if he was dropped into another anime?

Despite having no innate cursed energy of his own, Jinwoo Sung is strongly positioned to survive in Jujutsu Kaisen‘s universe. This is another monster hunter anime, meaning he can fight curses on familiar terms, and as for curse energy, Jinwoo can simply fight the way Maki Zenin does. If Maki can make it that far with curse-viewing glasses and curse-charged weaponry, then Jinwoo can do te same and take down Grade 1 curses with ease. Special Grade curses are a dicier proposition, but if Jinwoo has the right backup, then he could handle them, too.

That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: A High Fantasy World of Demon Lords, Ogres, Knights, and Devastating Magic

For Now, Jinwoo Sung Can’t Keep Pace With These Power Levels

In the world of isekai, few anime realms have a higher power level than that of That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. When a Japanese salaryman got stabbed to death and reborn in a high fantasy universe, he had become a blue slime with the innate skill Predator, his key to success. Renamed Rimuru Tempest, the businessman slime started eating other monsters to gain new powers and attributes, and he eventually started making lots of new friends, too. He forged alliances with dire wolves, goblins, ogres, and even demon lords, forming a new monster nation called Tempest in the process. Also, despite Rimuru being a totally OP isekai protagonist, he’s still wary around this world’s strongest fighters, such as the knight Hinata Sakaguchi and the deceptively powerful Milim Nava, one of the demon lords.

Would Berserk’s Guts Survive These Anime Universes?

Bererk’s Guts boasts incredible physical strength and stamina, but would he survive these anime universes?

As he is now in the Solo Leveling anime, Jinwoo Sung is not ready to survive in an anime universe like this. He may be stronger than ever, but he falls short of what Tensura‘s best warriors can do, and even average fighters like Shion the ogre would be too much for him to handle. This world also features all kinds of diverse magic, none of which Jinwoo is prepared to face. The power levels in Tensura are simply too high for Jinwoo’s survival, but perhaps later in the Solo Leveling anime, Jinwoo will gain enough power and magic to survive anime worlds like this after all.
