Keitaro Motonaga (Date A Live, Katanagatari) directs the series and is joined by Takamitsu Kouno (Utawarerumono, Revue Starlight) for the series composition. Masami Sueoka (The Strongest Magician in the Demon Lord’s Army Was a Human) handles the anime character design, and Keiji Inai is responsible for the music; his compositions have been heard in some of the most beloved fantasy anime, including Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon?, Alderamin on the Sky and Burn the Witch‘s film version.

Written by American webcomic creator TurtleMe, The Beginning After the End marks a major milestone as the first anime adaptation of a Tapas series written originally in English. It’s also one of, if not the first, American series to receive an anime from any webcomics platform. He will serve as the anime’s story supervisor and executive producer. “I’m excited to share that The Beginning After the End is becoming an anime on Crunchyroll,” TurtleMe said. “When I first started writing TBATE as a web novel years ago, I never imagined it would one day reach this point. This milestone wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support from every fan along the way. I can’t wait to celebrate the premiere next year with all of you, whether you’re a long-time reader or a new viewer.” The series is praised for its worldbuilding, action and storytelling, recommended by many for fans of Mushoku Tensei.

“We are incredibly excited to introduce The Beginning After the End as an anime, marking an exciting new chapter for both Tapas and this beloved series,” said Mike Zhu, Head of Comic and Film & TV at Tapas Entertainment. “This is a wonderful opportunity that allows us to share TBATE’s epic story with fans around the world in a whole new way. This collaboration represents a major milestone for us and US-created webcomics, and we can’t wait to see the excitement it sparks among our community and beyond.”

Crunchyroll’s Release of The Beginning After the End Continues Its Streak of Webtoon & Webomics-Based Anime

The series marks another example of Crunchyroll’s involvement in webcomics-based anime adaptations, seen in Tower of God, The God of High School and most recently, Solo Leveling. Earlier this year, Crunchyroll CEO Rahul Purini revealed that the company pitched Solo Leveling to its partners in Japan. “Sometimes certain stories might not be what our partners might be able to create and produce primarily for the Japanese audience,” he said. “So, we step in and invest with our partners because this might be something that we believe strongly for our audience internationally. So, we take that step and co-produce with our audiences.”

TurtleMe’s unique path to an anime adaptation started as a web novel on the popular self-publishing site Royal Road. Tapas picked up his series as a novel before adapting it as a webcomic, for which TurtleMe also writes the scripts. Alongside TurtleMe, Tapas Entertainment’s Zhu and Kevin Nicklaus, and TurtleMe LLC’s Gabrielle Luu, are created as executive producers.

The Beginning After the End is available in seven languages on Tapas; a CBR ranking spotlighted the series among its 10 Underrated Isekai Manhwa You Need To Be Reading. Readers can purchase the five physical versions already out via Yen Press, with more coming in 2025. The Beginning After the End is described: “[the story] follows the thrilling journey of King Grey, a once-powerful ruler reborn into a vibrant world of magic, mythical creatures, and epic battles. Now living as Arthur Leywin, a boy with untapped potential, he discovers that his new life is filled with danger and adventure at every turn. From mastering powerful spells to facing fierce enemies, Arthur must use his skills and wits to protect those he cares about and uncover the secrets of his mysterious reincarnation.
