Dragon Ball DAIMA Viral Video Teases ‘The Dragon Ball Remake We All Need’

An online Dragon Ball video has gone viral, demonstrating what a modernized anime remake would look like after the release of Dragon Ball Daima. The video uses official footage from Toei Animation, with an edited musical score from the official TV series and films.

A social media user named Piccolo Damayonnaiz uploaded the viral Dragon Ball video on X (formerly Twitter). The video is a compilation of newly-made animation recapping the early adventures of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, taken from Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero and Dragon Ball Daima Episode 1. Chikashi Kubota was the chief animation director on both projects. Piccolo Damayonnaiz edited the musical score with the soundtrack of Dragon Ball composer Hidenori Arai to make the nearly five-minute compilation video feel more like a traditional Dragon Ball episode.

New Dragon Ball Video Shows What a Remake of the Original Anime Could Look Like in 2024

The opening scene of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero recaps Goku’s first battle against the Red Ribbon Army as a child before transitioning to their revival in the “Cell” story arc in Dragon Ball Z. The iconic conclusion of Kid Gohan defeating Perfect Cell with the symbolic support of his father leads to Dragon Ball Daima Episode 1, which began with a rundown of the “Majin Buu” saga from Dragon Ball Z. However, Gomah’s and his demonic cohorts’ reactions have been edited out. The viral video ends with Goku obliterating Kid Buu with the Spirit Bomb and giving everyone back on Earth a thumbs-up.

Before the release of Dragon Ball Daima, fans had been yearning for a traditional remake of Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, not one that edits out filler episodes from the original release like Dragon Ball Z Kai. With more classic anime franchises going down this path, not to mention the uncertainty in the direction of the Dragon Ball series after the loss of creator Akira Toriyama, the desire for a high-quality remake of the original Dragon Ball series has only grown. Amusingly, Kubota expressed great interest in working on a Dragon Ball anime remake following the 2022 release of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero.

Dragon Ball Daima is a brand-new anime TV series in the Dragon Ball franchise, coming six years after the epic conclusion of the Dragon Ball Super TV series. Taking place one year after the end of the “Majin Buu” arc, Goku and his friends have been turned into children by the evil Gomah, who now holds the title of King of the Demon Realm after the demise of Dabura. After unintentionally wasting his one-and-only-wish on de-aging the Z warriors with the Earth’s Dragon Balls, Gomah kidnaps baby Dende before fleeing back into the Demon Realm. Now, it’s up to Kid Goku to rescue Dende and turn everyone back to normal with the help of a mysterious new friend (or foe?) named Glorio.

New episodes of Dragon Ball Daima will be available every Friday on Crunchyroll at 10 a.m. PT. However, after Daylight Saving Time ends on Nov. 7, new Dragon Ball Daima episodes will air at 9 a.m. The upcoming Dragon Ball Daima English dub will have Stephanie Nadolny reprising her role as Kid Goku.
