Lazarus, Shinichirō Watanabe’s latest project after serving as director of multiple genre-defining anime including Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, and Space Dandy, just got a surprise glimpse at 2024’s New York Comic-Con. As confirmed by the newly-released video by Adult Swim on YouTube, Lazarus gives viewers a glimpse into its tech thriller vibes showing the agile Alex Gilberto, as he deftly avoids authorities as a high-profile fugitive. The anime is set to premiere in 2025, with Lazarus and its surprising John Wick connections sure to be anticipated as one of the best series of the year, given its associated talents.

Lazarus is a science fiction adventure set in 2052, where the world is in a period of unprecedented calm thanks to the Hapna drug synthesized by Dr. Skinner, voiced by Cowboy Bebop’s Spike Spiegel voice actor Koichi Yamadera. It is seemingly the ultimate miracle drug, halting pain, yet its creator suddenly goes missing, and upon his return, Hapna is revealed to have disastrously fatal side effects, with only Dr. Skinner possessing the cure. Perhaps the most exciting reveals, aside from additional footage, is the confirmation of Cowboy Bebop veterans including Yamadera and Faye Valentine’s Megumi Hayashibara.

From Shinichiro Watanabe, the creator of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo, comes Lazarus, a new animated action series for Adult Swim. Animated by Studio Mappa, the series will feature action sequences choreographed by John Wick’s director, Chad Stahleski.
